Chapter 1
Adam awoke and looked up at the greenish sky of Neptune. Mars was missing. Well, technically it had been missing for years.
Adam had never got the chance to go there, but he couldn’t stop thinking about it. If Mars had already disappeared, there was nothing stopping Neptune from disappearing too.
His breathing tank was getting low. That wasn’t a big problem; he could always fill it up anytime.
What was for breakfast today? Adam thought. ”DING!” Oh, it was still the same old stir-fry with nuts and no meat.
What will I play today? Oh yeah, he only had one choice. Basketball. He didn’t mind basketball, but he wished he were the one who got to choose whether he wanted to play basketball.
Adam crossed a day off his “UNTIL I’M 18” poster with a marker.
6 years, 3 months, and 84 days until he turns 18.
That means 6 years, 3 months, and 84 days until he gets to interact with another human being.
“He walked out onto the basketball court when a voice suddenly called out…”
“Hello.” The voice called, startling Adam.
“You have reached the right stage of life where you get a choice, you can now play basketball or… tennis. Since you are now 11.5200156 years old, you will start to experience big changes in your life.”
“Such as getting to meet another human for the first time in your life (tomorrow), or work at a job, and if you get lucky you might get Techcdonalds.”
The holographic voice reverberated around the room.
Adam was completely shocked. His poster had said only this morning that he still had 6 years, 3 months, and 84 days until he met another human.
Okay, so now I have to deal with and worry more about stuff. he thought.
“A real human—not a robot, not a picture, not a video of one, but an actual human.” He wondered what they looked like. But before that, let’s play some Tennis, whatever that is.
“NO! You must be chosen for your job first!” The voice sprang up again.
She can read my mind?
“Yes, Adam, I can,” She replied to
his thoughts. “Please follow me, Adam”
“But where are you?” asked Adam. “I am here,” she said in a threatening voice.
Suddenly a robot the size and shape of Adam appeared out of nowhere. “Now can you see where I am?” the robot asked. “Yes, Madam.” Adam said politely, “Call me Alex” she corrected. “Okay Alex.” Adam replied.
“So, why am I meeting a human tomorrow?” Asked Adam curiously. “It’s because, Adam Colinskees, you…” Alex paused, “You know what I’ll tell you after you meet the person.”
Adam was confused, he didn’t know what to think so he tried not to let that bother him very much.
“Okay, we have to leave in around ten minutes.” Alex said. “Okay,” Adam replied.
Ten minutes later, Alex was driving in what she called a car, but Adam thought it should be called an automatic loud thing that apparently moves. (ALTTAM)
Once the car had stopped, Adam climbed out of the car and straightened his hair a little bit.
“Bye,” Alex called. “See you later,” Adam said back.
When Adam arrived, he hoped to see another person going for their job interview, but no one was in sight. Adam walked into the interview room and took a seat. “Welcome,” a robotic voice said as he sat down.
“Hi, I’m here for a job interview,” said Adam. “What job would you like?” the robot asked. “Um, is there any room at Tc-” Adam felt a burst of destructive pain and then blackness.
He cracked his eyelids open and looked around the room. Where was he? It was unfamiliar.
'WHEN' was he? He couldn't remember how much time had passed.
He wasn't sure. He couldn’t remember what had happened.
His clothes were different from what they were before, his hands were cleaner, his eyes were fresh and a tissue was in his pocket.
“It’s Alex,” the robot said. Suddenly, Adam remembered everything. “What happened when I fainted?” Adam finally asked.
“That’s all the robots have been wondering about.” Alex answered.
“How long have I been unconscious?” Adam asked, scared of the answer.
“About a week or so” “WHAT!” Adam screamed.
“Calm down, Adam.” Said Alex. “Alex, what happened to me?” Adam asked.
“Nothing,” Alex replied. Adam stared at Alex, wide-eyed.
“You just said I’ve been unconscious for a week.” Adam said.“Yes,” Alex replied.
“That’s not nothing.” Adam said back. Alex didn’t answer for a long time. Finally, Alex spoke up.
Adam... there's something I need to tell you.” Adam looked at her. “What is it?” Alex was silent for a moment.
Adam, you’re not fully human.
That’s the end of Chapter 1…
Chapter 2 is ready. Keep reading to find out what happens next.
